I, like most, would be happy with my Tom-Tom(or Garmin). Nothing in any in the manual or literature I received has anything about the Nav updates. __________________ 2004 Touareg V10 TDI Colorado Red Blk 2000 Golf 5spd 2-dr (now grandsons) Sand Biege 2008 Mercedes GL320 CDI (wife's) '83 Mitsubishi 4X4 PU(2.3L turbodiesel) '85 U1700 UNIMOG ["I DO understand - its a UNIMOG thing"] I would say your salesperson is feeding you a line of BS. It read "God created alcohol to prevent the Irish from taking over the world".
I was told that the new nav system is continuously updated, by satellite, for the maps, traffic data, POI, & ect.. The salesman said no problem the 2012 Touareg comes with free interactive updates for maps, POI, and traffic.. Check your own nav system for the version it's currently using, I think it's in the setup menu. Find out what version they show as for your vehicle. My grandmother by the way, had an unforgettable stained glass placard over her kitchen sink.
When I went to the maps update section, I was told that a map update failed and instructed to double-click on the file to start the installation process.
However, I never found the bloody file on my computer.
I was also offered the choice to entirely remove Garmin Express from my computer. When I attempted to re-download the maps I was again told to install Garmin Express.
I don't know for sure but there is a Map Upgrade button under the System Info screen. Maybe try putting it on a flash drive and plugging that into the car? And thou I did not read the book to see everthing it did.
I do not need to have the "update service" running constantly.
I update two or three times a year and that's enough for me. I can't even fiddle with "sc.exe" since I'm informed by Windows that I "require permission from Trusted Installer to make changes to this file." I am not happy. Can you buy the updates, burn a CD and do your own updating?? And there have been a few errors and omissions in my 2011 nav.I have attempted to update the maps on my Nuvi with the old installer. Tom TOM doent help customers but is censoring their problems. I wrote this yesterday on this Forum, but it was censored. I think if you each time I pass one of your company trucks. Many of the new roads have been added, making routing, in conjunction with the new OS much more intelligent.
